Weekend Wonder — {The Ballet Recital}

There she is:  sky in her eyes, sky in her dress.  The dress that had to be stitched up a few moments before the opening curtain–stitched up like so much of our lives.

“I don’t think anyone in the audience will notice it.”  I use my assuring tone and my “you’ll be great” smile.

It is a time to dance.  It is a time to keep.  I watch her and wonder at the gift of a daughter–this one who has been my mystery girl.  Unpredictable.  The one who keeps her blessing lists.  The girl in the middle who needs her niche.

I watch from the wings.  She follows her hand with her eyes.  She catches my gaze.  Here in the hollow of my heart, she is right where she’s supposed to be.
